Gerald Karpe, 43, has been found guilty of sexual assault.

A jury of eight men and four women, consisting of a teacher, a nurse, a restaurant manager, a retired iron worker, a Realtor, a librarian, a former scout master, two retail workers, two casino workers and a security guard, returned the verdict after less than a day of deliberations in Carson City District Court.

Karpe was accused of sexually assaulted a then 7-year-old boy a number of times between June 2005 and June 2006.

The allegations came to light in July 2006 after the woman and her son moved out of the area and the boy started to "display strange behavior traits" when his mother told him they were going to return to Carson City for a visit.

The police reports indicate that when the mother questioned him, he told her that "Jerry did bad things to him."

Karpe was questioned by detectives and denied any wrongdoing. He admitted having the child to his home to play video games, but resisted any suggestion he'd hurt the boy, according to the report.
