Carson City

Artists prepare Nevada Day Show

The Nevada Artists Association will be presenting its annual "Nevada Day Show" Oct. 15-Nov. 30 at the Brewery Arts Center Gallery. The gallery is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

The juried show is open to all Nevada Artists as well as NAA members. Entries are limited to three pieces, or four, if one of the pieces is a miniature.

Fees are $20 for the first entry and $10 for each subsequent entry, including miniatures, for nonmembers. Fees for members are $10 for the first entry and $5 for each subsequent entry, including miniatures.

An artists' reception will be held and refreshments served from 3-5 p.m. Oct. 27.

Jazz venue for Carson teens

Comma Coffee, 312 Carson St., is giving young musicians an opportunity to play jazz alongside professionals in a public venue.

Starting in November, for the first hour of every Wednesday Jazz Night at Comma Coffee will be dedicated to young people.

Library presenting documentary

Carson City Library will present the second part of a four-part documentary series directed by Nevada State Archivist Guy Louis Rocha and videographer Gwendolyn Clancy, 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The documentary titled "Goldfield: A New World Order, Failure of a Dream" is part of the series "Might is Right," underwritten by the Nevada State AFL-CIO.

Library to host talk on Chinese art

Jeff Kelley, consulting curator of contemporary art at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, will present an illustrated talk on Chinese art Wednesday at the Carson City Library, 900 N. Roop St.

The talk is part of "Nevada Neighbors," the Capital City Arts Initiative's lecture series on contemporary art. The presentation be 7 p.m. There will be a reception for Kelley at 6:15 at the library. The lecture and reception are free.

Auditions being held for 'The Bug'

The Reno Little Theater will hold auditions for "The Bug," a comedy of office mix-ups in the world of computers at 7 p.m. today in the Reno Little Theater Rehearsal Hall, 246 E. Arroyo St., off Wells Avenue, in Reno.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.

Parts needed are two men and two women, ages 18 and older. Directed by Jim Martin, "The Bug" will be performed December 1-16.
