Road closures for the Nevada Day Parade

Highway 395 will be closed at 8 a.m. Oct. 27 from Winnie Lane on the North to Fairview Drive on the South for the Nevada Day Parade. Highway 50 will be closed from Roop to Curry streets. Through traffic is encouraged to use Edmonds Drive and College Parkway to avoid the heavy parade traffic.

Talk on Chinese art tonight at library

Jeff Kelley, consulting curator of contemporary art at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco will present an illustrated talk on Chinese art at 7 p.m. today in the Carson City Library. The talk is part of "Nevada Neighbors," the Capital City Arts Initiative's lecture series on contemporary art. A reception is at 6:15 p.m. The library is at 900 N. Roop St.

Thursday last day to sign up for dance workshop

A Dance Voyage Dance and Drama Workshop is 10 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Plaza Hotel and Conference Center. Classes in hip-hop, tap, jazz and modern, and musical theatre, will be offered. The cost is $115 for the day or $25 per class for ages 10 and older. Space is limited. To preregister, call 691-8959.

DAR meeting today at B'Sghetti's for lunch

The Battle Born Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution meets at noon today at B'Sghetti's Restaurant, 318 N. Ghost Walk stepping out on Saturday

"Something Wicked This Way Comes," 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, takes ticket holders on a tour along the "Kit Carson Trail," with stops at some of the oldest buildings and homes. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for ages 6-12. Tours start at Telegraph Square and depart every 30 minutes; reservations are recommended. Residents lauded by city Parks and Recreation

The Foundation for the Betterment of Carson City Parks and Recreation announce this year's recipients of Special Recognition Awards.

• Volunteers of the Year is awarded to Elinor and David Bugli for their many years of presenting music and cultural events to Carson City.

• The Organization of the Year is awarded to the American Legion Post 56 Honor Guard for their dedication and allegiance ceremonies presented during many formal gatherings in the park system.

• Business of the Year is awarded to Western Environments, Inc. for exceeding the level of services as a landscape contractor for the Street Tree Program by providing free gardening consultations.

• Volunteer of the Year is awarded to Anne and Chas Macquarie for their work developing bicycle and pedestrian trails throughout the city.

In recognition of their many contributions to the Carson City park system, each recipient's name will be placed on the monument in east Mills Park at the entrance to the Pony Express pavilion. There will be a dedication ceremony 2 p.m. Nov. 10 at the monument.
