Unrestrained juveniles target of upcoming enforcement

The Carson City Sheriff's Department is taking part in a new enforcement program designed to get juveniles to wear seat belts.

Starting on Saturday through Nov. 4 deputies will be working overtime, looking for teenagers not wearing seat belts. 

If a teenager is stopped for a traffic violation and they are not wearing their seat belt, they will get a ticket.   

"Remember, if you are 18 years old or older and you are driving a car, you will get a ticket for having unrestrained teenagers in your car if the passengers are under 18," said Deputy Jarrod Adams. "Traffic accidents are still the number one killer of America's youth. Parents, please try to make sure that your children always use their seat belts and drive safely.

Overtime for this detail is paid for by the Joining Forces Grant, Office of Traffic Safety, Department of Public Safety.
