Storey company gets $30K grant for training

The Nevada Commission on Economic Development granted $30,000 in Train Employee Now funding to PPG Architectural Finishes, in Storey County.

The company, which makes paint for the architectural market, will spend an additional $10,400 of their own funds to cover new employee training costs.

The expanding Storey County plant is one of 120 manufacturing facilities owned by PPG Architectural Finishes, established in 1883 in Pittsburgh, Penn. The company has invested more than $34 million in Nevada so far and this training will help provide 30 new employees with valuable skills.

Qualifying new or expanding businesses that hire 10 or more workers can apply for training grants from the Commission on Economic Development to help cover employee training costs. The grants are designed to help Nevada companies achieve productivity quickly.

Companies applying for training grants must supply funding for a portion of the training, which is coordinated through a community college in the state.

To qualify for a grant, application companies must pay wages that exceed 80 percent of the statewide or county average annual hourly wage. The company must provide health insurance with options for dependent coverage to their employees.
