Friends in Helping Service (FISH) is looking for donations for it's biggest and most critical canned food drive of the year, said Monte Fast, director of FISH.

Now through Thursday, students at all Carson City schools can help their PTAs compete for prizes by bringing in canned food in bags supplied by schools.

The food goes to needy families and is especially important for the holidays, Fast said.

People who want to donate can also drop cans off at schools.

The food drive started in 1984 and brings in about 50,000 cans each year.

The deadline is Thursday at noon. Call 882-FISH for more information. People who need food for the holidays can start registering Nov. 1.
