Carson swimming pool to be closed Sundays


The Carson Aquatic Facility will be closed on Sundays from November through February. The facility will remain open Monday through Saturday. For information, call 887-2242.




Applicants sought for parks commission


The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from persons interested in serving on the Carson City Parks and Recreation Commission. There are five openings. Terms are for four years and expire January 2012. Applicants should be aware that a minimum commitment of up to 10 hours a month is expected. Volunteer applications may be obtained from and returned to Carson City Executive Offices, 201 N. Carson Street, No. 2 by Dec. 1. All applications submitted to this office will be considered public information.




Celtic harpist comes to children's museum


Renowned Celtic harpist and storyteller Patrick Ball returns to Carson City at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada


The program is sponsored by Wild Horse Productions and the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada.


Ball will perform his new solo theater piece, "The Fine Beauty of the Island," an uplifting, music-filled journey in search of a legendary Irish tune and the islanders who played it.


Tickets are $15 for the general public and $12 for students and members of the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada or Wild Horse Productions. Tickets can be purchased at the Children's Museum at 813 N. Carson St. or at 887-0438 or at www.wildhorsetheater.com.




Medicare, Medicaid help offered Monday at senior center


The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services will be at the Carson City Senior Center 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday to help residents review their Medicare health plans for 2008. Representatives will help people with Medicare learn more about the $3,600 that is available to help pay for Part D drug coverage and to help them complete the extra help applications. 'Wonder of the World' plays at BAC


Proscenium Players presents "Wonder of the World" by David Lindsay-Abaire Friday and Saturday and Nov. 9, 10 and 16, 17 at 8 p.m.; and 2 p.m. Sunday and Nov. 11 and 18. All shows at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King St.


Directed by Doug A. Mishler, this is a wild ride of fantasy, farce and self-discovery.

Volunteers sought for seniors program


The Nevada Rural Counties Retired and Senior Volunteer Program offers many volunteer opportunities.


Volunteer activities include crime prevention projects, respite and in-home care, budget and tax assistance, telephone reassurance, legal assistance, home weatherization, adult literacy tutoring, hospital volunteer service, docent services, resistance exercise training, lifeline emergency telephone service, veterans memorial services, homeless shelter services, USDA commodity foods distribution, free senior farmers market produce coupon distribution and more. Festival benefits Women's Services


Tahoe Women's Services 19th Annual Chocolate Festival on Saturday will once again bring together tantalizing chocolate, delicious wine, a silent auction, and night-long entertainment to support an amazing cause.


All proceeds benefit Tahoe Women's Services.


The event is from 7 to 10 p.m. at the North Tahoe Conference Center in Kings Beach.


Cocktail attire is suggested for this event.

Artists' group to hold show in Minden


The Carson Valley Artists Association Scholarship Benefit Show is Friday through Sunday. This year the art will be judged by media rather than overall as in the past.


The show will be in the CVIC Hall at Esmeralda and Fourth streets in Minden. Times are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday; 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday.
