A Carson City man was killed Sunday in an all-terrain vehicle accident in the hills that border Lyon County and Carson City.
Luis Alberto Chavarin-Ramos, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 5 p.m. accident one-mile south of the end of Highlands Drive in Mound House.
According to the police report, Chavarin-Ramos was southbound on a three-wheeler behind a friend on a dirt bike when the two vehicles neared a pickup truck that had stopped on the one-lane dirt road to allow them to pass.
According to Nevada Highway Patrol Sgt. Mark Clark, the truck driver, whose name was not available, said he saw the two bikes coming and stopped to let them pass. The dirt bike successfully passed, but Chavarin-Ramos struck the right front bumper.
Clark said the dirt road was narrow, with one side of the truck bordered by a steep ravine and the other a tall rock wall.
Lyon County deputies were initially called out the accident, but when it was determined to be in Carson City, officers here responded. The Nevada Highway Patrol is assisting in the accident investigation. No citations were issued.
