Carson boys tie North Tahoe
Appeal Staff Report
The Carson Senators boys soccer team was able to put plenty of pressure on North Tahoe in a nonleague match on Monday, but in the end it couldn't put the ball in the net often enough to do more than salvage a 1-1 tie with the Lakers at North Tahoe High School.
"(The Lakers) worked up on Truckee the other day and Truckee is No. 1 in the (Northern 3A)," Carson coach Jason Koop said. "They are a pretty skilled team. We held them to nine shots total to our 19. That's been our major issue this year - scoring and finishing (plays)."
North Tahoe went up 1-0 in the 18th minute.
"They had a good run on our midfielders," said Koop, whose Class 4A Senators are 9-1-2 on the season. "Our defenders didn't pick it up. They got the ball over the top and touched it inside the 18 (penalty box).
"(Carson goal keeper) Brandon (Briggs) came out - not too far - to close the angle like he was supposed to. Credit to North Tahoe."
Carson tied the game when John Nuthall put it over the top from 35 yards out and Uriel Duran headed it in the 30th minute. Carson hosts Wooster at 7:30 tonight.
