Local sports digest: CHS volleyball wins

The Carson High volleyball team had no problem with North Valleys on Tuesday, sweeping the Panthers 25-13, 25-12, 25-6 at Morse Burley Gym.

Breanna Anderson had 7 kills and six digs, Mavil Diaz had five digs and five aces, Bridgett Huish had four aces, two kills and a dig, Shannon Earwood had four kills, one dig, one block and 32 assists and Kailey Taylor had four kills, one ace, three blocks and one dig for Carson (2-3 in the Sierra League)

CHS BOYS TENNIS

The Carson boys tennis team (7-2, 6-2) rolled to a 15-3 win over Wooster. Spencer Brinson, Ben Henningsen and Thomas Hollenbeck-Pringle won in singles and Brad Cobler and Jordan Rogers, James Pelz and Spencer Trapp and Alex and Tyler Wing won in doubles in the first round for Carson.

In the second round, Gordon Lee, Colter Thomas and Adam Whitt won in singles and Tom Dudley and Jon Kane, Tyler Simms and Tyler Smith and Collin Grischott and Luke Gentner won in doubles to give Carson a 12-0 lead.

Matt McDaniel also won in singles and Ricky Nyguen and Kris Canonigo and Kevin Craig and Chris Moore won in doubles.

CHS GIRLS TENNIS

Carson (4-5, 4-4) kept its playoff hopes alive with an 11-7 win over Wooster by winning eight of the nine doubles matches. "Our doubles did really well," Carson coach Linda Hixenbaugh said.

Carrie Linn won 7-6 (7-5) and Tiffany Moore won 6-1 in singles. In doubles, Hannah Shaw and Alyssa Corda swept, winning 6-0, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3, Hannah Dudley and Elise Hansen swept, winning 6-0, 6-2, 6-0 and Jena Greenburg and Joanna Xie won 6-4, 6-0.

DOUGLAS VOLLEYBALL

The Tigers (22-3, 5-0) swept South Tahoe 25-17, 25-12, 25-11 at Douglas. Melissa Brown had 12 kills, two points, one ace and six blocks, Megan Mitchell had five blocks, four digs, one ace, seven points and 22 assists, Taryn Williams had 10 kills, three points, four digs and three blocks, Jourdan Burke had six kills, seven points, one ace, eight digs and one block, Bridget Maestretti had three kills, six points, one ace, one dig and two blocks, Christine Puis had one kills, Alyssa Todd had one kill and one point, Allie Hughes had one block, five points, one ace, one dig and two assists, Mary Lombino had 11 digs and three points, Jordan Marsh had one ace and Mysta Townsell added three aces, nine points and four digs.

Douglas won the junior varsity match 2-0 and the freshmen match 2-0.

CHS FRESHMEN VOLLEYBALL

Carson won the freshman match against North Valleys 25-7, 25-11. Jazmine Stokes had six aces, one kill and one dig, Elizabeth Bennett-Doran had three aces and three assists, Breann Perry had two assists, Makayla Drahos had two aces and two kills, Bailey Young had one assist, one kill and three aces, Kleine Hernandez had three aces and four digs, Kristi Shaffer had one kills and Elysse Virden added two aces, four kills and two blocks.
