Churchill County residents wanting to get lost for the next month have a place to go where it's fun to get turned around and not know where they are.
For the last nine fall seasons, Rick Lattin and his wife, B. Ann, owners of Lattin Farms, have opened up their corn maze, made of more than 100,000 stalks of corn on more than three acres of land, to visitors.
The Fall Festival, which includes the maze, kicks off Saturday at 1955 McLean Road at Lattin Farms in Churchill County.
This year, the theme will be a magical maze in which there will be clues within the corn stalks for people wanting to complete the puzzle. If people are able to solve the puzzle, they will come across the bridge to exit the maze.
From the air, the outline of a wizard, a magical wand and the magic kingdom are clearly visible in the maze.
Not everyone can solve the puzzle, and many get lost and cannot find their way out.
"Mazes are for young people," he said. "People get lost all the time, and they call us to rescue them."
Lattin said navigating the maze in a group setting is more enjoyable than trying it individually.
Beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday the farm will host Goat Day.
The morning Goat Day shows include pack goat, hairy milk goat, ugliest goat, prettiest goat, smallest goat and longest-horned goat.
Saturday will also feature the grand opening for the 2007 pumpkin patch and hay rides. Mr. Lattin said the events are part of the Fall Festival he puts on every year.
Each Saturday in October, Lattin Farms will hold a scarecrow factory, the pumpkin patch, hay rides and cow train rides for younger children.
Admission to the farm is free, but there are fees to participate in any of the activities. Lattin said people can feed the animals at Critterville or use the lawn for picnics for no charge.
The maze, which is open from 5-8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, costs $7 for people 14 and older and $5 for children under 14. Children, when entering the maze, must be accompanied by an adult.
