Pumping up Senator pride

After the tremendous week that CHS has had with our awesome fall Homecoming celebration, I am sure that staff and students are ready to slow things down a bit, but there are still several activities and athletic events that are pumping up that Senator pride.

Huge kudos to Jennifer Tartan and her leadership students, as well as class advisors and the entire student body, who worked diligently on floats, lip syncing and hallway decorating to put together some very spirited and fun activities that made all staff and students proud to be Senators.

The CHS Capitol Stars will be presenting their fall musical "The Phantom of the Soap Opera" at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 12-13, 19-20 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Brewery Arts Center. Directed by Karen Chandler, this musical is set in the 1970s on a soap opera, the actors are plagued by a phantom that kidnaps their headlining heroine. In the spirit of the Halloween season this musical comedy is very enjoyable and suitable for the entire family. Tickets are $7 for children, $8 for student, seniors and $9 for general admission.

The CHS Choir and Musical Theater classes, directed by Susan Sonnemaker, will present their fall concert at 7 p.m. Oct. 18. Due to some construction at the community center, this event will be moved into the large gymnasium at Carson High. Tickets are $3 at the door.

Come and see the CHS Band, under the direction of Jarod Sorum and sporting their new uniforms, as they kick off their marching band competition season. They start their season with the "McQueen Extravaganza" at 11 a.m. Saturday at McQueen High School. They are also hosting their own competition Oct. 27. They will also be marching in the Nevada Day Parade. The show this year is entitled "Chronometry" by Key Poulan, features the Windsor chimes and is described by Sorum as "a musical exploration of time and shape."

The fall sports lineup for this week: Tuesday, boys varsity tennis regional at Bishop Manogue at Plumas course at 3 p.m., girls varsity golf at Washoe Golf Course at noon, volleyball vs. Wooster at 6 p.m., girls soccer vs. Douglas at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Cross Country at Washoe at 3 p.m. and boys soccer vs. Douglas at 7 p.m. Thursday, girls varsity volleyball vs. Reno High at 6 p.m. Friday, varsity football at Hug High at 7 p.m. Saturday, cross country at Clovis, Calif., girls varsity soccer at Reno High at 11 a.m. and boys varsity soccer at Reno High at 1 p.m.
