Carson soccer clubs beat North Valleys

The Carson High girls soccer team had to overcome somewhat of a Homecoming hangover to pull away for a 5-0 win at North Valleys on Saturday.

With Homecoming festivities on Friday night and the Homecoming dance on Saturday night, Carson coach Randy Roser let his team know that it had to take care of business in the second half against the Panthers after leading just 1-0 at halftime. "We had a little chat at halftime," Roser said.

Roser said his team did play well in the second half. Carson's only goal in the first half came when Brandi Vega scored on a long pass from Amanda Osborne. In the second half, Helaine Berris scored on an assist from Allie Collier, Vega scored on an assist from Berris, Kayla Sanchez scored on an assist from Vegan and Collier scored on an assist from Berris.

Carson (5-1) in the Sierra League has a key three-game stretch coming up against Douglas at home at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at Reno High this Saturday and at South Tahoe a week from Tuesday.

CHS BOYS 1, NORTH VALLEYS 0

Carson (4-0-1 in the Sierra League) dominated, but could only score once when Nik Marsh scored with three minutes left in the first half.

North Valleys didn't have a shot in the first half and only had two shots in the game. Goalie Brandon Briggs had to make just one save in posting the shutout.

"We broke through numerous times and we had our opportunities to finish the ball and we didn't" Carson coach Jason Koop said. "We controlled the majority of the match. There were very few times they got over midfield."

Carson's goal came when Drew Good sent a pass from midfield to Brady Roser who sent a pass to Marsh for the goal.

"It was a great play," Koop said. "We had things going like that all day. We just weren't putting it in."

Brian Duran, Jorge Guevara, Derek Sanchez and Matt Tillitt all played well defensively and Chris Brown and Moses Fernandez also played well. Carson next plays at 5 p.m. Monday against Damonte Ranch at CHS.
