DOUGLAS 1, SOUTH TAHOE 0
The Tigers scored with 12 minutes left in the game on a wild sequence for their first win at South Tahoe since 2000. Dustin Goldade was fouled outside the goal box leading to a free kick.
South Tahoe deflected the ball out of bounds behind the goal, leading to Brian Jaggard's corner kick. Jeff Crozier sent a header off the corner kick toward the goal, but a Viking defended was able to make the save.
Ross Gardner, though, scored off of the rebound. "Ross Gardner was there to pounce on it," Douglas coach Milko Vasquez said.
Goalie Ivan Gonzalez had an outstanding game to post the shutout. "He had four phenomenal saves," Vasquez said.
Vasquez received some help from Jose Alcaraz on another wild sequence. After Vasquez made a save, South Tahoe looked like it was going to score on the rebound, but Alcaraz made a diving stop, heading the ball away. "It was crazy," Vasquez said.
Ray Kaffer, Brian Randall, Eddie Vega, Geoff Rahe, Andrew Andraski, Kyle Gardner, Robbie Forest and Christian Salazar also all contributed to the win.
"It was a running fest, it was up and down," said Vasquez about the game's tempo. "It was a well-played game for our entire team. It was definitely by far the best game we've played all year.
"Obviously this is a pretty big win for us. It's been a while since we've beaten Tahoe at Tahoe so this was really critical for us."
