Roy J. Jones joined his wife, Bette, in heaven March 28, 2006. They were married for sixty years and leave behind three children and their spouses; Linda and Robert Beveridge of Dayton, Michael and Gale Jones of Pahrump, Patricia and Michael Efford of Chico, Calif.; grandchildren, Chris and Terri Jones, Lisa and Ken Houck, Robert Beveridge, Stacey and Geoff Weston, Michael Beveridge and Ashley Efford.

Roy was an active Mason and Shriner in Carson City for many years. At age 17 he joined the Navy, where he was stationed on a submarine. He saw duty on the carrier USS Oriskany towards the end of his Naval Career. He was a veteran of both World War II and Vietnam.

Roy delivered ice in Oakland, was a prison guard at San Quentin and then rejoined the Navy in 1952 and stayed until his retirement in 1974. He and Bette moved to Carson City in 1974 where Roy was a Parole and Probation Officer, After his second retirement he went to work for the Carson City School District as a School Bus Driver.

After their third retirement Roy and Bette bought a motor home and traveled the country for over 10 years. They settled in Chico for their final retirement. After Bette's death in 2006 Roy returned to his hometown and lived in an assisted living home, to be near his beloved wife.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, James Houston Jones and Sammie Myrtle Pickard Jones, his brothers Doyle and Lotus Jones, sisters, Bonnie Kautz and Estelle White. He is survived by one sister, Lois Loomis of Sacramento, Calif.

Graveside service 11 a.m. Friday at Lone Mountain Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please donate to your local hospice center, or the Shriners Children Hospitals, in Roy's name. Fitzhenry's Funeral Home in Carson City is in charge of arrangements.
