WASHINGTON " The Energy Department's inspector general says it's "disturbing" that a law firm with a conflict of interest was picked for the Yucca Mountain project without fully documented reasons for the decision.

The Energy Department has defended picking the firm, Morgan Lewis, to help prepare a license application for the nuclear waste dump " even though Morgan Lewis has represented nuclear utilities in litigation against the government.

The Nevada congressional delegation asked for the inspector general investigation that was released Thursday.

The report also calls DOE's selection of Morgan Lewis inconsistent with past practices.
