College to host all-student art show
From the dramatic to the whimsical, the classical to avant-garde, styles and mediums will mesh in the 2008 Western Nevada College Student Art Show.
The annual event features a art pieces created by students at the WNC Douglas and Carson City campuses during the academic year. The show is in the Main and College Galleries of the Bristlecone Building Monday through May 9.
A public reception for the artists is April 23 from 4-7 p.m.
Retired employees meeting Tuesday
Chapter 1329 of the National Active and Retired Employees will meet at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday at Grandma Hattie's, 2811 S. Carson St.
Lunch is at 11:15, the meeting is at 12:15 p.m. Jean Moltz, master gardener is the speaker. All retired and active federal employees are invited to attend.

Authors appearing at the library
Three Box Sled Authors will give talks about their books at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Carson City Library. Meet authors, purchase signed books, hear live music, and enjoy refreshments. The event is free.
Box Sled Publishing is a locally owned and operated publishing company. Author's night is part of the Carson City Library's event Wake Up and Read, an event promoting literacy among our community.

CARE benefit 'Taste of Jazz' at Atlantis
Do you have a taste for jazz? How about fine wines? Well you can get both and help your neighbors in need at "Taste for Jazz" in the Atlantis Casino Grand Ballroom at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
Enjoy samples from more than 40 wineries and restaurants and relax to the live sounds of Cami Thompson and a four-piece jazz band. All the proceeds will benefit CARE Chest of Sierra Nevada. Tickets are $60. Call 824-4467.

Steve Miller Band and Joe Cocker bring their eclectic and prolific musical talents to the Reno Events Center at 8 p.m. Aug. 16.
One of the original jam bands, the Steve Miller Band emerged from San Francisco's summer of love with a distinct sound that has proven to be timeless.
The legendary Joe Cocker, whose "Classic Cocker" was released by EMI last year, will open for the Steve Miller Band.
