Prudential Spirit of Community Awards
The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program are at 2 p.m. today at Western Nevada College, 2201 W. College Parkway. Award is for Rachael Lambin of Gardnerville, a high school junior at the JRJ Homeschool in Minden - an engraved silver medallion to signify her selection as one of Nevada's top two youth volunteers for 2008 in the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program. Rachael is being honored for raising and donating more than $30,000 to purchase land and help build a new school for orphans in Kenya. For information, call 783-8707.
Pinwheels placed to fight child abuse
Advocates to End Domestic Violence with the Ron Wood Family Resource Center and the Department of Child and Family Services will place pinwheels on the legislative lawn at 4 p.m., today. The campaign is designed to raise awareness of the need for reporting suspected child abuse. Volunteers will assist in planting 490 pinwheels in Carson City, each pinwheel representing one child abuse investigation conducted in our county this year.

Carson AT&T Pioneers to meet
Carson AT&T Pioneer volunteer organization dinner meeting 5:30 p.m., today, at Tito's Mexican Restaurant, 444 E. William St. All are invited to join.
The Pioneers do a variety of service and community-related projects. The dinner meeting lasts 5:30-7 p.m. and includes a raffle.

Storytime hosted at Minden Library
The Minden Douglas County Public Library hosts "Favorite Book Storytime" in celebration of National Library Week at 4 p.m., today and 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Children may bring a favorite library book or book from home to the library and Miss Carol will read the books aloud for all to enjoy. All ages are welcome.
