Legacy Corps seeking volunteers
The Nevada Legacy Corps is in need of volunteers for its Nevada Legacy Corps for Caregivers program. Volunteers will be trained and compensated for their work.
The NLC provides respite care to allow caregivers and families to receive a break. They provide support and relief for families and the caregivers they hire. For information, call 841-6033.
Volunteers sought for wetlands cleanup
Roger's Carpet One and Girl Scout Troop 399 will sponsor an "Earth Day" cleanup event 9 a.m., today. Volunteers from Roger's Carpet One in Carson City will team up with Girl Scout Troop 399 to clean up two wetlands areas in Carson City. Fundraiser for ill Chromalloy worker
Barbecue and Potluck Fundraiser noon-4 p.m., today at Mills Park for Chromalloy employee Xang Yang. Xang Yang has fallen very ill and is currently in the St. Mary's Tahoe/Pacific Hospital. Carson City coin bought for more than $400K
Reno coin dealer and Carson City coin specialist Rusty Goe bought a 1871-CC gold double eagle coin for $414,000 in Heritage Auction's Central States sale held in Chicago on Thursday.
Goe, the author of two books on the Carson City Mint and the president and founder of the Carson City Coin Collectors of America.
There were 17,387 of those coins produced at the Carson City Mint and is the second rarest date in the "CC" $20 gold piece series.
Goe estimates that no more than 270 are left.

Silver Saddle Ranch workshop on Thursday
Friends of Silver Saddle Ranch will hold workshops to decide how to create a plan for Silver Saddle Ranch, the adjacent Prison Hill Recreation Area and the Anderson property.
The first workshop is 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Dr.
There will be another workshop May 8, and then a brainstorming session, or "charrette," later that month.
Friends of Silver Saddle Ranch was incorporated in 2001 as a community based nonprofit. Its mission is to preserve the ranch and its cultural, historical and natural resources both as open space and as a working ranch.
The group also offers environmental programs including birding and hiking.
