It was another big day for the Carson High track team at the TrackFest held on Saturday at Manogue High School.

Among the highlights were performances by Caleb Carter, Richard Shroy, Kayla Sanchez and Christy Works and the CHS junior varsity boys team, which won the meet. Virtually all of the top Northern 4A teams competed in the event.

In addition, MIke Arnold continued his impressive showings in the pole vault, winning the high school division at the Mt. SAC relays in Southern California.

The TrackFest was held in brutal, windy conditions, so many of the times were somewhat slower than if the meet would have been held in more favorable conditions.

Carter won the long jump with a personal best and Northern Nevada leading 22 feet, 3 inches. He also won the triple jump at 42-3.

Another highlight for Carson's boys was Richard Shroy winning the 3,200 in 10 minutes, 35 seconds. Other top finishers for the boys included:

Floyd Hernandez, 200, fifth, 24.48; Robby Barlow, 400, fourth, 54.8; Phillip O'Neal, 110 high hurdles, fifth, 17.9; boys 4x400 relay - Barlow, David McMasters, Shroy, Carter, third, 3:38; boys 4x200 relay - Ryjul Stokes, Christian Grant, Carter, Hernandez, 1:34. Carson's boys finished fifth as a team.

For Carson's girls, Kayla Sanchez made her return from a bout with tonsillitis and strep throat and won three events. She won the 100 in an outstanding time of 12.7 considering the conditions. She also won the long jump with a leap of 15-5 into the wind and the 300 hurdles.

Christy Works wasn't feeling 100 percent, so she ran in just two events. She was still able to win the 800, equaling her best time of 2:24.

Also for Carson's girls, Gloria Sosa took second in the 400 in 1:02, Jenny Mital was fourth in the 1,600 in 6:13 and the 4x200 team of Kelsey Chicaura, Kailey Taylor, Sosa and Works took second in 1:49.

Carson was able to take fourth in the meet even though it didn't run in many events. Carson didn't run the 4x400 relay in which it has Northern Nevada's top time and if it had placed in that event, the Senators would have taken third. The Senators also didn't compete in the 200 and was without one of their top runners in Julianne King.

For the JV boys, Evan Pearson had an outstanding meet, winning the long jump with an excellent mark of 20-1 and the triple jump at 37-8. Mark Sinnott also won the 100 in 12.0 while Ean Witter was third in 12.1.

Andrew Richards, Josh Van Sickle, Evan Richards and Brandon Bounacoursi were fourth in the 4x800 relay, Cameron Childers was second in the pole vault, Eric Roberson was fifth in the shot put at 41-5, Luke Carter was second in the 300 hurdles at 44.5, Josh Peacock was third in the long jump at 18-0, Matt Cooper was third and Blake McCoy was fourth in the discus and the JV boys won the 4x200 in 1:38. For the JV girls, Brittany Dixon was third in the shot put and second in the discus.

At the Mt. SAC relays, Arnold won with a jump of 15-2. Arnold has a personal best of 16-0 this season as he became one of only a handful of Nevada high school athletes to clear 16-0 in state history.

Carson will next compete in a Northern 4A meet on Wednesday at McQueen and will also have nine athletes in the Meet of Champions in Sacramento this Saturday. Those going to Sacramento are:

Caleb Carter, long jump, triple jump; Shroy, 3,200; Arnold, pole vault; Pearson, frosh-soph triple jump, long jump; Sanchez, long jump, 200, 100, 300 hurdles; Sosa, 800; Works, 400, 800; and Sosa, Works, King and Chicuarara in the 4x400 relay.
