Tippett plays for Arizona football title team

Dave Tippett, a 2001 Carson High graduate, was a member of the Arizona Football League champion Chandler Cowboys, which won the title on Saturday.

The Arizona Football League is a semipro league for Christian athletes. The league has sent players to every major professional league, including the National Football League and Arena Football League.

Tippett was an offensive lineman for the Cowboys, which finished the season 11-0-1 and beat the Southwest Stampede 20-7 in the championship game on Saturday. Tippett was also honored with an Earthmover award, which is given to offensive linemen.

Solid effort in track for Sierra Lutheran

Minden's Sierra Lutheran High track team had a respecatable showing this past weekend in a meet with much larger schools South Tahoe, Whittell and Incline at the South Tahoe Youth Sports Complex.

Robert DePaoli leaped 17 feet, one inch in the long jump and for the first time competing in the events, went 34-3 in the triple jump and 5-6 in the high jump. Others who performed well were Levi Grabow, Andrew Deterding, Chris Bergstom, Ryan Jackson, Michael Kubel, Taylor Love, Nathan Conover and Preston Lyons.

Kubel won the 3,200 meters while Love was third in the 1,600 and second in the 800. Tori Swearingen, the only girl to compete for Sierra Lutheran, who is a sprinter and a hurdler, also tried the long jump for the first time and went 12-2 1/2.
