A minor earthquake with a magnitude of nearly 5.0 shook many in Northern Nevada and eastern California at 11:39 p.m. Friday.
The epicenter was 8 miles west of Reno with a preliminary magnitude measuring 4.9, according to the Southern California Earthquake Data Center.
In Carson City, emergency personnel received "a lot of calls," said Sheriff Ken Furlong. "There were no reports of injury or any damage."
The quake was felt across a wide area, not just Reno-Sparks and Carson. Residents from Lyon and Churchill counties, and Lake Tahoe reported that they'd felt the shaking, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The site is close to Mogul, where there had been a swarm of small quakes " 125 mostly small temblors " since Thursday afternoon, the Associated Press reported Friday afternoon. No other information was available as of press time.
