Clay strong in long jump

Bryan Clay struggled in the long jump at the U.S. Olympic Trials, but there were no such struggles at the Olympics. With still one jump left, Clay set a season best on his second jump, going 25 feet, 5 1/4 inches. Fellow American Trey Hardee has gone 25 3 1/4 and World Record holder Roman Sebrle has gone 25 1 3/4.

So far the standings have Clay in first now with 1,994 points and Hardee in second with 1,970. Sebrle, who ran 11.21 in the 100, has 1,791 points in the Olympic decathlon.

Clay is coached by 1983 Carson High graduate Kevin Reid.
