Two local racers, brothers Dallas and Hunter Colodny recently completed their seasons in two auto racing series with podium or top five finishes.
Nineteen year old Dallas finished third in the season point standings in the ASA Speedtruck Challenge (speedtruck.com), a feeder series for NASCAR. Colodny qualified either first or second for eight races, and had nine top five and 11 top 10 finishes during the 12-race season that was contested at six western race tracks.
Dallas has been racing for seven years, starting in karts at age 13. He then advanced to Legends cars, and just completed his second season in the ASA Speedtruck Challenge, a series for V8-powered purpose-built race trucks. Colodny's sponsors include ExtremeWrench.com, Atlantis Casino Resort, Pepsi of Reno and LaHorgue Metal Fabrication. A contract driver for Cobro Motorsports, LLC, Dallas is also a sophomore at the University of Nevada, studying journalism. He is working on putting together a super late model ride for the 2009 season.
Fourteen year old Hunter won Rookie of the Year honors in the competitive Legends division at Shasta (Calif.) Speedway (shastaracewaypark.net) while on his way to fifth place in season points. Hunter has been racing for eight years and graduated this season from karts and Bandoleros to the Legends division.
Legends cars are 5/8 scale replicas of 1930s and 1940s coupes and sedans, powered by 1250cc motorcycle engines. Hunter will stay with the Legends and crew chief Chuck LaHorgue for 2009, but plans to branch out to run a number of different tracks in the northwest. Hunter is a ninth grader at Sage Ridge School.
