With more than a dozen world-class ice skaters in colorful costumes, the Eldorado in Reno has brought fantasy and fun to their showroom with the new show, "The Holiday Ice Spectacular."
Technologically advanced logistics brought the ice rink to the stage. The skaters are challenged to perform their routines but make the impossible very possible with their talents.
The rink was constructed in 48 hours with 4,000 gallons of water using refrigeration coil technology and a 64-horsepower chilling unit to stay cool. The unit keeps the ice frozen solid at about 10 degrees Fahrenheit.
Lead skaters are Michael Clark from New York City, a U.S. National bronze medalist, Brianne Delcourt and Gordon Willense from Adagio, Texas, who also are Canadian Team members, and Melissa Parker from Denver, who is a U.S. National Collegiate Champion and U.S. National Team member.
The show takes guests through a Winter Wonderland, The Nutcracker fairy tale " featuring Sugar Bear in a pink tutu, both entertaining and endearing " a Country Christmas, and featured solos and ensemble skating routines.
Sugar Bear is performed by Edward Gornik of Salt Lake City. When asked about performing a skating routine on a showroom stage, Gornik laughed and said, "It's challenging. But it's fun."
Comedy relief is well supplied by the husband and wife team of Lauren and Nathan Webnar of El Segundo, Calif. Their timing and wit are skillfully applied and appreciated as "Santa's Helpers."
The show opened Friday and will run through Jan. 4. Ticket prices vary and advance purchase is recommended. All ages will enjoy this show, however, children younger than 5 are not allowed in the Eldorado Showroom.
