A 53-year-old Carson City Sheriff's Department contract employee was arrested Friday night after she drove drunk to the city jail to test a suspect's blood alcohol content, according to police.
Kathleen Alice Cherry, a phlebotomist, told a deputy who smelled alcohol on her breath that she had one margarita before she drove her sport utility vehicle to the jail around 9 p.m. when called to test the blood of a person suspected of drunken driving, police say.
Cherry had red eyes, droopy eyelids and a blood alcohol content over the .08 percent legal limit, police say. She could not pass sobriety tests including one asking her to stand on one leg, according to a report.
Her SUV was towed that night because it was parked in a zone in front of the sheriff's department marked for police only.
She was charged with misdemeanor drunken driving and her bail was set at $1,132.
Cherry declined to comment on the arrest.
