The Champion eater. A number of well-known Eureka residents had a debate as to the capacity of a human being in the eating line " which culminated in a bet as to which of the number agreed to devour between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. It was calculated to be about four dozen oysters, one loaf of bread, four potatoes, one dozen eggs, one pie, one quarter of a pound of butter, two pounds of beefsteak and six baked apples. The man finished his task by the appointed time, and won a fine suit of clothes on the strength of his gormandizing qualities. He can now safely claim the title of the champion glutton.

Owsley Museum. Owsley has placed an Indian curio exhibit in one of the bay windows, "The Swell." It consists of a wigwam, bows, arrows and Indian basket work " rented from Abe Cohn. There is hardly a minute in the day that someone is not looking at it.

Seen, Heard or Thought " Some persons have a pet peeve, but George Meyers has what he thinks is a "pet tease." Every time he thinks of it he will assume the attitude of a reporter scribbling notes and asks in a mock seriousness: "Has the press any statement to make?"
