The Galena girls basketball team picked up a big early season win by beating one of Northern Nevada's top clubs as the Grizzlies held off Spanish Springs 48-43 on Tuesday.
Galena jumped out to a 13-4 lead after one quarter and maintained its lead although the Cougars closed to within 31-29 after three quarters. Galena outscored Spanish Sprigns 17-14 in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
"The second quarter was kind of ugly," Galena coach Karen Friel said. "We came back and kind of held them off. It's a good win for us."
Hayley Jensen scored 18 points, Emily Burns had 13 points and Taylor Schaller added nine points for Galena.
