Colorado 14ers hand Bighorns another loss

DENVER " Nine players scored in double figures as the Colorado 14ers ran by the Reno Bighorns, 129-108, at the Broomfield Event Center Sunday afternoon. The 14ers led by as many as 39 points in moving to 4-1 on the season.

Denver Nuggets assigned player Sonny Weems led the way for Colorado, scoring 20 points and pulling down six rebounds in just 16 minutes of action. James Mays posted his fourth double-double in five games with 16 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

"I thought we came out and played hard defensively. I was really pleased with our effort," said 14ers head coach Bob MacKinnon. "We talked yesterday about sharing the ball, and I was really impressed with how we did that tonight."

All eleven players scored for Colorado, who shot 54 percent from the field while holding Reno to just 34 percent for the game.

After taking a 59-43 lead to the locker room at halftime, the 14ers blew the game open with a 22-4 run to start the third quarter. Weems and Mays combined to score nine straight points on three consecutive 3-pointers in the first two minutes of the period, sparking a 43-point third quarter for Colorado.

Cheikh Samb also made his home court debut for the 14ers on assignment from the Denver Nuggets. In 26 minutes, Samb posted 10 points, six rebounds, three assists, and five blocked shots.

Reno was led by Damone Brown's 28 points in the loss. Antonio Meeking added 20 with 10 rebounds in the losing effort.

Reno will visit the Utah Flash Monday at 7 p.m.
