Surface streets slick; light snow forecast

Drive carefully on surface streets. Many have snow and ice.

The Nevada Department of Transportation reports at 5:57 a.m. the following road conditions on area highways:

Highway 50 " Chains or snowtires required for 21.1 miles between the California state line at South Lake Tahoe and US Highway 395 South in Carson City.

Highway 395 " Snowtires or chains required for 37.4 miles between William Street in Carson City and .3 miles north of Lemmon Valley.

Interstate 80 " Chains required except for 4-wheel drive vehicles for 57.5 miles between Alta California Exit 146 and the California State Line. Chains or snowtires required for 4.3 miles between the California state line and .6 miles west of Garson Road Exit 4. Chains or snowtires required for 14.1 miles between East McCarren Boulevard and Tracy Clark exit.

Many surface streets in Carson City have ice and snow. Drive carefully.

Road work continues in Carson City with areas of delays. There is continued work on Fairview Drive from South Edmonds to South Carson Street with lane closures and possible delays, as with East Fifth Street from Saliman Road to Fairview Drive.

Work on Highway 50 in east Carson City and Mound House has posted lower speed limits with narrow lanes just east of Flint Drive.

Today's weather will be cloudy with a chance snow showers with accumulation of 1-3 inches. Highs 22-32 with west winds around 10 mph.

Tonight, mostly cloudy wit ha slight chance of snow showers. Lows 1-11 with north winds around 10 mph in the evening becoming light.

Wednesday will be mostly cloudy with a slight chance of snow in the morning. Highs 18-28 with west winds 10-15 mph.
