ATLANTA " One worker is dead and 15 other people injured after a pedestrian bridge under construction collapsed near the entrance of the Atlanta Botanical Garden.
Atlanta Fire Capt. Gregory Shinkle says the bridge collapsed just after 9 a.m. Friday. He says scaffolding being used to pour concrete for a new elevated bridge collapsed.
Shinkle said he wasn't sure how high or how long the bridge was. He also said he didn't know what remained of the bridge.
About a dozen ambulances were on the scene at the park in Midtown Atlanta. Shinkle said some injured workers were taken out of the accident area on backboards.
Shinkle says most of the people injured had fractures but he had no details on their conditions.
Authorities have not released the name of the person killed.
