Woman denies she faked being hit by truck

A Carson City woman maintained Friday that she was struck by a truck Tuesday on Roop Street, despite what the driver and a witness claim.

"He hit me and knocked me down " and he knows he did," said Betty Sharks, 64, on Friday from her home.

Sharks was taken by ambulance from the intersection of Roop and Adams streets following the 3:15 p.m. incident.

She said she suffered a "bruised and knotted arm" when a truck, driven by Kashmire Sodhi, hit her arm as she crossed the street to meet the bus carrying her 7- and 8-year-old grandchildren.

Sodhi said he did not believe he struck Sharks as he turned left onto Roop Street from Adams Street. A southbound witness said it looked as if Sharks just fell.

The deputy on the scene pointed to the truck's untouched film of dirt from sand laid on the roads because of recent snowfall as proof that nothing brushed against that truck.

But on Friday, Sharks was adamant that she did not fall.

Sharks claims the truck hit her left arm and she was knocked to the ground. She said when the driver stopped and tried to help her up, she told him not to touch her.

"I said to call the police and the ambulance," she said. "My back and my arm hurt."

Following the accident Tuesday, Sodhi said that he stopped his vehicle only because he saw the woman fall in his rearview mirror.

"I stopped to help her up. Then she said I hit her," he said as he filled out paperwork for the Sheriff's Department.

Sharks said she's retained an attorney.

"I'm just glad I didn't have one of my grandkids with me. That's what I'm thinking about, that could have been a kid."
