Snowtires, chain requirements on some roads

Drive carefully on surface streets, some have light accumulation of snow.

The Nevada Department of Transportation reports at 5:57 a.m. all routes are open with no controls with the following exceptions:

Interstate 80 " Chains required except for 4-wheel drive vehicles for 55.8 miles between Drum, Calif. Exit 150 and .7 miles east of the Nevada state line.

Snowtires or chains required for 6.3 miles between the state line and .1 miles west of Mogul.

Snowtires or chains required for 27.8 miles between .6 miles east of junction East McCarren Boulevard and .2 miles west of West Main Street, Fernley.

Highway 50 " Snowtires or chains required for 21.1 miles between .7 miles east of the Nevada state line at South Lake Tahoe and .4 miles west of US 395 at South Carson City.

Highway 395 " High wind advisory: Campers and trailers are not advised for 6 miles between East Lake Boulevard and Winters Ranch.

Snowtires or chains required for 4.8 miles between Winters Ranch and 1.8 miles north of Washoe Hill, south of Reno.

SR 341 " Snowtires or chains required for 17.4 miles between US 50 and 4.7 miles south of US 395, bottom of Geiger Grade.

SR 342 " Snowtires or chains required for 3.8 miles between SR 341 at Silver City and SR 341 at Virginia City.

SR 431 " Snowtires or chains required for 22 miles between .2 miles north of SR28 and 2.4 miles south of US 395.

Some surface streets in Carson City have ice and snow. Drive carefully.

Road work continues in Carson City with areas of delays. There is continued work on Fairview Drive from South Edmonds to South Carson Street with lane closures and possible delays, as with East Fifth Street from Saliman Road to Fairview Drive.

Work on Highway 50 in east Carson City and Mound House has posted lower speed limits with narrow lanes just east of Flint Drive.

Today's weather for the Carson City area will be brisk with snow likely through sunrise, then mostly cloudy with isolated snow showers with accumulation up to 2 inches. Highs 29-39 with west winds 15-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.

Tonight, light snow likely with accumulation up to 2 inches. Lows 14-24 with west winds 10-15 mph.

Tuesday, cloudy with highs 28-38 with west winds 10-15 mph.
