Nevada Appeal Staff Report
A 40-mile all-terrain vehicle ride is planned for Jan. 1 in Fallon.
The Desert New Year's Day Ride is free and is open to all ATV enthusiasts.
The ride, on a scale of 1 to 5, is a 1, and for all ages and skill levels. This will be an easy ride on mostly sandy (maybe snow-covered) desert trail, and will visit the Desert Queen Mine, Uppsala Hogback, and ride along parts of the Emigrant Trail.
The total distance and time of the ride will depend on the weather but plan on about 40 miles or so.
The pre-race meeting will begin 10:30 a.m. at Fallon Livestock Exchange, located at the intersection of Trento Lane and Highway 50 about 8 miles west of Fallon. There will be no services of any kind, so you will need to gas up, use the restroom and get supplies before you arrive.
Along with your normal riding gear, be sure to bring layers of warm clothing, goggles for the dust or maybe snow. Bring snacks or lunch and water.
Unless the weather is just too bad " raining or snowing heavily, making it dangerous to drive to the meeting area " plan on riding.
