Assemblywoman Sheila Leslie has been named to a 10-member federal commission that will study the needs of children during times of disaster.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Friday announced his appointment of the Reno Democrat to the newly-formed panel, which will submit a report to Congress in two years.

Reid praised Leslie, saying she would be able to provide invaluable insight because of her extensive background in caring for children in times of need.

While serving as executive director of the Children's Cabinet, Leslie created numerous programs designed to assist children.
