A Gardnerville man was injured this evening when he failed to stop at a red light at College Parkway and Highway 50 East and struck another vehicle, an official said.
Sgt. Ron Larson with the Nevada Highway Patrol said Robin McGahuey, 53, was driving north on Fairview Drive through a green light to College Parkway when a westbound vehicle, driven by Timothy Aldrich, 48, slammed into her.
Aldrich's GMC Jimmy ended up on its roof on the west side of the intersection. He was pulled from the wreckage conscious and alert but was taken by ambulance to the airport where he was flown to a Reno hospital.
McGahuey complained of chest pain, but refused medical treatment at the scene, according to the police.
Witnesses reported that Aldrich was speeding, and ran the red light at the intersection, Larson said.
"When you see that yellow light, you are supposed to be on the brake," said Trooper Larry Barnes. "You're not supposed to speed up."
Aldrich will be cited to disregarding a traffic signal. The accident impeded traffic for about an hour.
