Jerry Hafen named public safety director

Gov. Jim Gibbons has named Jerry Hafen his new director of the Department of Public Safety.

Hafen has been in law enforcement 32 years and is a lifelong Clark County resident. He is currently deputy chief of the Nevada Division of Investigation.

He replaces Phil Galeoto who left the position two weeks ago.

Hafen previously served as an investigator for the Taxicab Authority, a gaming enforcement agent and a senior investigator for the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Since 2003, Hafen has supervised the NDI statewide narcotics and major crimes units at DPS.
