Gov. Jim Gibbons has declared a state of emergency for the city of Wells and Elko County following Thursday morning's earthquake.

He made the decision after touring the area Thursday.

And Gibbons said his administration is working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency to get a federal disaster declaration for the area.

The 6.3 magnitude quake caused considerable damage in Wells, along Interstate 80 near the Utah Border. Buildings especially in the old part of town were seriously damaged but no serious injuries were reported.

"I am working to ensure that the families and businesses get the help that they need in a timely manner," said Gibbons in issuing the declaration.
