1964

Where were you born?

Orange, Calif.

On what day do you celebrate your birthday when it's not a Leap Year?

I usually spread it around. I celebrate it a couple of extra days because I don't have one.

If you could change Leap Day from Feb. 29, would you?

I wouldn't change it. I like being born on that day. I enjoy the uniqueness of it.

A Leap-related memory:

I got my first driver's license at 16 in California and it was like a three-year renewal. The driver's license said, "Expires on birthday," in 1983. I wanted to go back into the DMV and say my license never expires because there wouldn't be a Feb. 29 that year, but I didn't.

On what day do you celebrate your birthday when it's not a Leap Year?

Feb. 28

What will you do this year to celebrate?

We are having a big party for family and friends. We've all been talking about it for weeks. It's her first birthday.

If you could change Leap Day from Feb. 29, would you or would you not and why?

I wouldn't. I think it's special. Everybody has a birthday but this is an extra-special birthday. Her sister Nacey is taking her to school for show-and-tell (today).

Sandra K. Small: "I was born Feb. 29, 1940, in La Crosse, WI. I've lived in Carson City over 30 years. We didn't celebrate birthdays when I was a child, so the question of when to celebrate a birthday never came up. Since then there have been lots of celebrations. Any day of the week is good for me. One memorable birthday was my 15th. Carol Tierney and Martha Keating surprised me with my first real birthday party. I look older than my birthdays indicate. That's OK, I'm enjoying every one!"
