After years of being used as the Silver Springs Water Company office, a Rent-A-Center, a Realtor's office and a pawn shop, the old building at 1010 Highway 50 East is now a trading post.
The 7cc Trading Post (7cc stands for Seven Cattle Company) has been in operation for nearly a year and is owned and operated by April and Terry Saccucci. Its slogan is "Something for Everyone."
A pawn shop it is not. There are no used firearms, either.
"We are not a pawn shop," said Terry Saccucci. "We are a gift store. We take consignments. We sell Indian jewelry, a little something for everyone. Business has been good."
The store features Ann Hall photographs of wild horses.
"She is an up and coming photographer," said Saccucci. She catalogues Silver Springs, Fernley and the back side of Stagecoach.
"We have new DVDs and old DVDs, computer games, blankets, knick-knacks, Native American jewelry and Walker River warriors hanging over there on the wall," Saccucci said.
The trading post takes steps to ensure that all of its Native American merchandise is authentic.
"They have to declare it and show me their registration number. That way we have authentic American Indian goods," he said.
The trading post also features antique pocket watches and new pocket watches.
The Saccuccis have lived in Silver Springs for six years, having moved from Tucson, Ariz.
"We met in Reno in 1988. We moved to Tucson on a job promise working for a pipeline. That didn't go through," he said.
Saccucci said he and his wife were living in a small house in Sun Valley after moving back to Nevada. With a second child on the way and their house too small for an addition, they decided to raise cattle and bought property in Silver Springs.
"I love it. It's a great location and it has a lot of potential," he said.
The Trading Post also offers special orders and advertises its saddles on craigslist.org.
The 7cc Trading Post is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call 577-3777 or 577-3778.
