WNC closed today because of weather
Western Nevada College will be closed today because of severe weather. Officials plan to reopen offices Monday. Students are away from campus now on winter break. Classes resume Jan. 22.
Nevada Hispanic Services open at new location
Nevada Hispanic Services Carson City has relocated to 1711 N. Roop St., on the corner of Roop and Beverly in the former Health-Smart Clinic.
Upcoming events include an information session on the Mexican Consulate 6 p.m. Jan. 16; a nutrition workshop in collaboration with Evenstart at Empire Elementary School 5:30 p.m. Jan. 17; and the All Star after-school program is also underway at Carson and Eagle Valley middle schools through Jan. 31.
Tickets for the JAC bus system can also be purchase at Hispanic services. Call 885-1055 for information.
Sandbags available at city yard
Filled and empty sandbags for filling are available at the Carson City corporate yard, 3303 Butti Way. Residents with flooding concerns can stop by the yard to pick up and fill the bags. Bags are free and will be available until they run out. Though it's not necessary, residents who want to close up their bags should bring their own Zip Ties or rope.
RTC INTERCITY route change begins Monday
The route of RTC INTERCITY, the commuter express service between Reno and Carson City will change beginning Monday.
Jump Around Carson (JAC) and RTC INTERCITY have been operating along the same route between Carson City and Douglas County since JAC began operating in October 2005. RTC INTERCITY will no longer serve the area south of Little Lane in Carson City to Topsy Lane in Douglas County.
JAC service will continue to operate along the route where RTC INTERCITY service will be eliminated. The new route and schedule will have minimal impact on most riders. For information, visit rtcwashoe.com or call 348-RIDE.
College offers more than 70 online courses
Looking to earn a college degree or enhance career skills while maintaining a busy schedule? Western Nevada College is offering more than 70 online courses for the spring semester that begins Jan. 22.
Dozens of core curriculum classes will allow students to complete degree or certificate requirements at their convenience. Featured classes for spring include: Health Information Technology, Business Career Classes, and Degree classes. A full class schedule is available on campus or at www.wnc.edu.
