Dayton man faces drug traffic charges

Following a month-long investigation, Lyon County narcotics detectives aided by Storey County detectives served search warrants in Dayton and Virginia City starting at 1:07 a.m. Sunday, with the arrest of 27-year-old Dayton resident Dan Nguyen.

The bi-county investigation was for trafficking marijuana, ecstasy, cocaine and mushrooms from California to Lyon and Storey counties by suspected Vietnamese gang members.

Alleged drug trafficker Nguyen was driving on Hwy. 50 east at Fort Churchill Road in Dayton. After stopping him, detectives allegedly found 96 grams of marijuana, 15 grams of mushrooms and 20 ecstasy pills in a hidden compartment inside the vehicle.

Detectives then went to Nguyen's residence on Fort Churchill Road, where three adult men were found to be under the influence. They were taken into custody and released pending lab results of their urine samples.

Inside the home, detectives also found five assault rifles, one shotgun, five hunting rifles and three handguns.

A search warrant for Nguyen's business in Virginia City also was served.

Nguyen was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana for sale, possession of psilocybin (mushrooms) for sale, possession of ecstasy for sale, possession of marijuana over an ounce, maintaining a residence for purpose of sale or use of a controlled substance and transportation of a controlled substance. His bail was set at $58,632.
