On behalf of youth and staff at the Murphy-Bernardini Regional Detention Center in Carson City, we are proud to publicly thank those individuals and organizations that continue to demonstrate the true meaning of the holidays.
The following continue to show their holiday spirit by giving to those children who must remain incarcerated during the holiday season. Without which many of these youth would experience very little holiday tradition without the kind thoughts of these people.
With warm regards and thanks to: Brian Smith, Mario Santos and the Carson Nugget for providing a wonderful Thanksgiving feast and a traditional Christmas meal; Kandes Myer, Dominick and Cristina Martinelli and the Connected Church for providing weekly spiritual services and a weekday youth group and for making sure each child had a gift on Christmas morning; friends Scott Yoder from Wal-Mart for their ongoing support; to Costco for their wonderful food donation.
Kay Ellen Armstrong for her continuing thoughtfulness and generous donations; the organization, Family and Friends of Prison Inmates for being such dedicated and dependable visitors to our kids and giving them a taste of how the decisions we make effect others.
Bill Mathieu for being such a dedicated volunteer and working with our kids; and finally, the wonderful group of people from Narcotics Anonymous who give of their free time to help those kids in detention who are struggling with substance abuse.
If we forgot to mention anybody please accept both our apology and our thanks. Your ongoing, generous contributions are greatly appreciated by both our staff and the children who benefit from them. It's great people like you who truly make Carson City a wonderful place to live and work. We are truly blessed. Thank you so much for your continued support.

'Blue' dinner in Minden supported by many
On behalf of the Douglas County Democratic Central Committee, I would like to thank everyone who came out to support our annual "Turn Nevada Blue" dinner recently at the Carson Valley Inn in Minden.
Special thanks to Nevada State Party Chair, Jill Derby, who served as our emcee and, with State Archivist Guy Rocha, did a touching tribute to the late Sallie Springmeyer. Cory Farley, former columnist with the Reno Gazette-Journal, was outstanding as our keynote speaker.
We also heard remarks from Gen. Paul Eaton (ret.) who spoke for the Hillary Clinton campaign, former Congressman David Bonier (D-Mich.), national director of the Edwards for President campaign, Steve Platt, chair of the Carson City Democratic Central Committee, who spoke as a representative of the Barack Obama campaign and Douglas High student Jesus Palma who spoke for Dennis Kucinich.
We want to commend the DCDCC Fundraising Committee chaired by Bud Orange: Marie Lekumberry, Jo Ann Orange, Jo Sprinkle, Ruth Strand, Beth Swanberg and Chuck Vickrey. They did a terrific job.
Thanks to the following for their donations: Carson Valley Inn, Douglas County Democratic Women, Casino Fandango, Cindy Farmer, Gottshalks, Greta Hambsch, J.T. Basque Restaurant and Bar, Laborer's International Union Local 872 and Cynthia Trigg.

Evergreen overwhelmed
by act of kindness
There are occasions when words of appreciation are not adequate to express the depth of gratitude felt by an overwhelming act of kindness.
The staff of Evergreen Carson City Health and Rehabilitation Center would like to express our thankfulness to the legal division of the Nevada State Legislature office for their incredible generosity toward our residents at Christmas.
Because of the largesse of the entire office, every one of our residents received a thoughtfully selected gift that was much appreciated and enjoyed. While Brenda Ardoes, Judy Wytock and Sharyon Jara spearheaded the team's efforts, our gratitude extends to each and every member of the legal division for making the difference in this year's Christmas.
Your kindness will not be forgotten.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Stepanski
executive director
