Dayton's Matt Bowman was one of four University of Nevada baseball players named to the preseason all-Western Athletic Conference team.
Bowman, a junior, was named to the preseason all-WAC team as a utility player. Also named to the all-WAC team for Nevada was sophomore first baseman Shaun Kort, senior designated hitter Terry Walsh and senior reliever Mario Rivera.
The team was chosen by the WAC coaches. Fresno State led with seven players chosen to the team. Fresno State senior outfielder Steve Susdorf was named as the Preseason Player of the Year while teammate Clayton Allison was named as the Preseason Pitcher of the Year.
In a vote of the coaches, Fresno State, the defending WAC regular season and tournament champion, was also the preseason pick to win the conference title while Nevada was chosen third. In the coaches poll, Fresno State received 36 votes and six first place votes, Louisiana Tech was second with 29 points, Nevada was third with 26 and followed by Hawaii (23), San Jose State (16), Sacramento State (10) and New Mexico State (7).
