The Carson High wrestling team had mixed results in possibly the toughest tournament it has competed in all season.
Carson took 19th out of 33 schools at the high-powered Tiger-Grizz Tournament in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Schools from Idaho, Utah, Montana, Wyoming and Nevada competed in the event.
At 125 pounds, Todd Banko was the only wrestler to place as he took fourth after going 4-2. Adam Welch also wrestled at 125 pounds in the hard luck tournament on Saturday after wrestling at 130 on Friday. Welch went 3-2 to take fourth in the hard luck tournament.
"It's probably some of the best competition we've faced all year," Carson coach Tyson Thivierge said.
Thivierge, though, admitted he was hoping for a little better finish from his 11 wrestlers who competed in the event. "As far as our performance I wasn't that enthused," Thivierge said.
Ten of Carson's 11 wrestlers did win at least one match. Nick Schlager (112), Ricky Urgarte (119), Aaron Jolcover (135), Martin Azzam (145) and Junior Valadarez (152) all went 2-2 while Trent Simpson (171), Garret Truesdell (189) and Max Schadek (heavyweight) all went 1-2.
