One man is in custody and police are searching for others after a car pulled alongside a patrol vehicle and shot at a Carson City deputy this evening, according to Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Furlong said the deputy was running radar at Airport Road and Nye Lane when a vehicle containing four people pulled next to him and opened fire just before 11 p.m. The officer was not shot.

The suspect vehicle was located and a Paul Perez, described as in his 20s, is in custody at this time.

Furlong said Perez is a member of a well-known Hispanic street gang.
