Grace Gracey Ward died peacefully and pain free surrounded by family after a long struggle with rheumatoid arthritis. She was born Oct. 26, 1926 in Kearsarge, Calif. and died June 27, 2008 in Yuma, Ariz.
One brother and five sisters preceded her in death.
She is survived by Vic, her loving husband and sweetheart of 60 years. Grace was a strong and caring mother to her three daughters Theresa (Bob) Meinen, Becky Ward, Debbie (Cliff) Wilson and son Ken (Lorna) Ward. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Gracey, along with grandchildren Mike and Scott Meinen, Chris (Abbie), Jon (Evette), and Nick Ward, Dan Boling and Anna and Grayson Pettit and Taylor and Morgan Wilson.
Her childhood was spent in railroad stations and towns in Nevada, Utah, and Owens Valley, California, where her father worked as a telegrapher, switchman, and agent. She met her husband in Lovelock, Nevada, where she was a telephone switchboard operator and Vic was a telephone switchboard installer. They were married in Carson City.
In recent years, Grace and Vic spent summers at Eagle Lake, California and winters in Yuma, Ariz. They enjoyed camping, exploring desert ghost towns, and traveling in the California, Arizona, and Nevada deserts and mountains.
A private service will be held at a later date.
