TRUCKEE, CALIF. " The National Transportation Safety Board released a preliminary report on the July 2 airplane accident that took the life of Truckee pilot Clayton Beck.
Beck took off from Truckee Tahoe Airport around noon on July 2, and was reported missing by family when he didn't return. A subsequent search found the wreckage and Beck's remains near Sierraville, Calif.
The Federal Aviation Administration inspected the accident site, finding the airplane had come to rest upside down within a stand of tall trees, according to the report.
The left wing had been mostly sheered off and the engine was separated from the rest of the airplane, according to the report.
All primary flight controls were located at the accident site.
The wreckage has been transported to a secure site for further examination, which could take up to a year, said Joshua Cawthra, investigator-in-charge, in a previous interview.
