RED LODGE, Mont. " Fire crews are beginning to gain ground on a wildfire burning in a canyon near the ski town and resort of Red Lodge.

Fire information officer Dixie Dies says the 9-square-mile Cascade fire did not grow significantly overnight Tuesday.

The fire is now 5 percent contained, meaning crews have established fire lines around a small section of the blaze after several days' effort.

The danger of high winds that could fan the flames lingers with a cold front expected to move through Wednesday afternoon.

The fire is about eight miles west of Red Lodge and two miles from the Red Lodge Mountain Resort.

An evacuation order remains in effect for the 90-home Grizzly Peak subdivision, but residents were being allowed in temporarily Wednesday morning to check on their homes and retrieve belongings.
