Most of Stewart Street will be closed by the Nevada Department of Transportation for center striping on Saturday, while Roop Street will not be shut down as was previously announced by Carson City Public Works, officials said Tuesday.

Between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m., Stewart Street from Highway 50 East to Carson Street will be closed. Motorists will be detoured through Roop Street, Carson Street or other nearby streets. Trucks are advised to detour on Carson Street.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be available, said NDOT spokesman Scott Magruder.

The city had planned to shut down Roop Street between Fifth and Musser streets for patch work on Saturday, but those plans were scrapped, said Harvey Brotzman, Carson City Public Works Engineer.

"You've only got a couple of north/south streets so it didn't take long for a couple of people to figure out the (scheduling conflicts)," he said. "It was easier for us to cancel our work than for NDOT."

Brotzman said a new date has not been set for the patchwork.

Work scheduled for Thursday and Friday will continue as planned. Between 9 a.m. and 3 pm, traffic will be maintained as repairs are made on South Roop Street between East Fifth and Musser streets.
